Open(ing)

I was out and about today and drove over to scout out the early season trout lake. The fishing season on this lake is open, but the lake itself has just begun opening.

This is the far western end where I like to go, as far away as I can get from the houses and resorts strung out along the shore. It shows promise of being open sooner than other parts of the lake thanks to this feeder stream. It's actually a controlled sluice way, but it's flowing fast and working away at the ice.

The weather, too, is doing its part. We broke fifty degrees this afternoon for the first time in awhile, and even in the blustery March wind the air felt mild. We're also getting some good rains, so the ice is getting it from all sides.

It can't last much longer.
