"Where Go the Boats" by Robert Louis Stevenson

Illustration by Clara M. Burd, from A Child's Garden of Verses, 1930 Edition.

Dark brown is the river,
Golden is the sand.
It flows along for ever,
With trees on either hand.

Green leaves a-floating,
Castles of the foam,
Boats of mine a-boating—
Where will all come home?

On goes the river
And out past the mill,
Away down the valley,
A way down the hill.

Away down the river,
A hundred miles or more,
Other little children
Shall bring my boats ashore.

Dude, Check This Out: Wooden Shjips

Does this San Francisco band play experimental rock, minimalist rock, drone rock, space rock, or psychedelic rock? The answer is yes.

Just yesterday they released their latest, "Back to Land." Sample below.

From their website:
Music Journalist Ben Ratliff reviews Back to Land in the New York Times Playlist this Sunday. You can read the review here!
“Back to Land is also centered and relaxed and open, almost pastoral. It’s music conceived for interior spaces but influenced by open-air ones.” – New York Times

And, for good measure, here's all of their 2011 release, "West."

Recycled Plastic Boat Lust

With apologies to Chi Wulff where you will find a regular feature called "Wooden Boat Lust." But seriously, these people should get some kind of award.

Over the Pass and To the Coast

I took a road trip to Olympia today because of a meeting near here tomorrow. I came with my friend Pat because he's going to the meeting, too, and because Olympia is his hometown, and because he was willing to drive his Prius.

It was chilly at home, warm and flowery here.

We went down to The Docks, which is at the southernmost tip of Puget Sound.

The State Capitol Building is right there.

Every Friday evening the area attracts lots of people, some playing music...

Some exercising their right to protest.

On this International Women's Day, I was moved by the Women in Black who have maintained a silent vigil for peace on this spot for years.

We strolled the boardwalk until the sun went down.

Then we walked into town and had hipster food for supper.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the city lights.
