This Time I'll Be the Guy

I'm home. It was a good trip.

I didn't make it out today, but tomorrow will be a dedicated fishing day. My personal Opening Day.

This time I'll be the guy on the water looking up to watch people packed in thin silver tubes pass by 40,000 feet above.

Blood Moon

I went out for the eclipse Wednesday morning--totality beginning at 3:45 AM PDT--hoping to take some photos, but we still had a thin cloud cover. The crescent was hazily visible, but with totality everything disappeared behind the clouds.

So I was glad to see that my nephew in Brooklyn, N. Y. had gotten a superb photo. He says it had been rainy and overcast all night, but cleared up beautifully just in time for the eclipse. Very, very nice.

Lord Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise

Another precious day of the waning season gone without fishing.

Tomorrow will find me on the water for sure, Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.

A Lazy September Afternoon

I finally got myself a new camera. I still have my trusty shock-proof-water-proof-cold-proof point-and-shoot, but it was time to learn how to use a for-real camera. You know, with lenses and stuff. I have a steep learning curve ahead of me, but I've gotten off to a flying start. The first real test will be the boy's first football game. I intend to document the season with high-end video and stills.

For now I'm practicing, so this afternoon I went out to the backyard and down to the river to play with my modest telephoto. The result is an inside look on a lazy September afternoon.

Happy Birthday, Ansel

It's the birthday of photographer Ansel Adams, born 1920, died 1984.

He said, "I hesitate to define just what the qualities of a true wilderness experience are. Like music and art, wilderness can be defined only on its own terms. The less talk, the better."

Yes. Just look. And see.

Catching the Wave
